COMMENTS THAT HURT GRIEVING PEOPLE 💔

Sometimes the deepest wounds don't come from loss itself...

They come from the words people say afterward.

Things like:

❌ "You need to be strong."
❌ "It's time to move on."
❌ "At least they lived a long life."
❌ "Everything happens for a reason."
❌ "God needed another angel."
❌ "You should be over it by now."
❌ "Stop crying; they wouldn't want you to be sad."

Most people don't mean to hurt us.

They are trying to help.

But grief doesn't have an expiration date.

There is no timetable for healing.

There is no "correct" way to miss someone you loved deeply.

What grieving people often need isn't advice.

They need understanding.

They need patience.

They need someone willing to sit with them in their pain without trying to fix it.

Sometimes the most powerful words are:

❤️ "I'm here for you."
❤️ "Take all the time you need."
❤️ "I remember them too."
❤️ "You don't have to go through this alone."

If you've lost someone, you know that grief is not something you get over.

It's something you learn to carry.

And a little kindness can make that burden feel lighter.

💬 What is one comment someone said during your grief that hurt you or one that comforted you?

Let's learn from one another and create more compassion for those who are hurting.

THINGS NOBODY TELLS YOU ABOUT WIDOWHOOD 💔

Nobody tells you that grief doesn't follow a calendar.

Nobody tells you that some mornings you'll wake up feeling strong, and by afternoon, a song, a smell, or a memory can bring tears to your eyes.

Nobody tells you that people will expect you to "move on" long before your heart is ready.

Nobody tells you how lonely it can feel to sit in a room full of people and still miss the one person you want to talk to.

Nobody tells you that you'll learn strengths you never knew you had.

Nobody tells you that you'll make decisions alone that you once made together.

Nobody tells you that healing doesn't mean forgetting.

Nobody tells you that it's possible to carry both grief and gratitude in the same heart.

Nobody tells you that some friends will disappear, while unexpected people will show up and become your greatest support.

And nobody tells you that one day, although the pain may never completely disappear, you'll smile again, laugh again, dream again, and find reasons to keep moving forward.

Widowhood changes you.

It breaks you.

It teaches you.

It strengthens you.

And if you're walking this journey today, know that your feelings are valid, your struggles are real, and your story still matters.

❤️ If you've experienced loss, what's one thing nobody told YOU about grief or widowhood?
